MA01 - Master of Environmental Management (Development Planning) (Master by Coursework)

Introduction

The SLUSE-Malaysia (SLUSE-M) Programme is designed for working professionals for the promotion of sustainable land use and natural resource management in Malaysia and othe developing contries in this region. The programme is modelled on and implemented in parallel to a similar programme initiated by a Danish consortium of universities.

Collaboration Framework

The SLUSE-Malaysia (SLUSE-M) programme was developed on a concept similar to that of the on-going SLUSE-Denmark (SLUSE-D) in which UNIMAS is a collaboratior.

Programme Schedule

Class activities and instructions such as lectures, presentations and discussions are conducted on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays). Classes are conducted during the weekends as we take into consideration the needs of students whoa re mostly professional working people.

Joint Field Course (JFC) As An International Field Work Programme

The Joint Field Course is considered one of the highlights of the SLUSE programme where students are given the opportunity to apply their classroom interdisciplinary knowledge in research methodologies in the context of real-life problems/issues while allowing for intercultural exposure and academic discourse between international and Malaysian students.

Who Should Apply?

The SLUSE-M Programme is designed for the following candidates:

  • Graduates and professionals involved in resource and environmental management.
  • Senior government personnel who are presently assigned tasks directly related to resource and environmental conservation with the desire to improve their skills and enhance their knowledge in resource and environmental management.
  • The general public with a relevant Bachelor Degree who wish to learn or update their knowledge in resource and environmental management.

Duration of Study

The duration of study Master of Environmental Management (Development Planning) is 2 years (18 months).

MA02 - Master of Social Science (Master by Research)

UG Programme 2

Research programme refers to graduate programme that is wholly research based. Student is assigned to an experienced member of academic staff as supervisor or to a supervisory panel. A panel is made up of graduate staff and experts from either within or outside the University.

The academic progress of research student is evaluated two times a year through progress reports. The degree is examined through the presentation of a thesis and a viva voce examination. A student who has satisfied the Graduate Studies Committee in all aspects of their work is eligible for the award of the degree.

PA01 - Doctor Of Philosophy Degree

UG Programme 2

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree is a research degree by thesis under the supervision of an experienced member of academic staff or a supervisory panel. A panel is made up of graduate staff and experts from either within or outside the University. The minimum duration of studies is 3 - 6 years full-time and 4 - 8 years part-time.

The academic progress of a research student is evaluated twice a year through the progress reports. Final assessment is through thesis and a viva-voce examination.

A student who has satisfied the Examination Committee for Postgraduate Studies in all aspects of their work is eligible for the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

Eligibility

  • A Master Degree with good pass from an approved university in an area relevant to the candidate's proposed area of research.
  • Other equivalent qualifications approved by the Senate
  • For international students, a minimum IELTS Score of 5.5 or its equivalent (e.g TOEFL-525; TOEFL Computer Test-196; TOEFL Internet Test 69-70) is required.

Duration of Study

The minimum duration of studies is 3 - 6 years full-time and 4 - 8 years part-time.
